Default i owe everybody here an apology!!!!

well ive been shaving with a DE for about 4 years now and have been very satisfied. then i bought a dovo shavette and was very pleased. then i figured i would step it up to a str8. so i bought a brand new dovo and a good strop. i had the dovo honed by lynn abrams so i figured it was "shave ready". the 1st half dozen shaves were a disaster as i thought they would b. i did everything i read on this sight. then i figured it wasnt me it was the razor!!!! i was stropping correctly and prepping and shaving correctly. everyone on SRP said it will take time. take it easy and slowly and i would get it after some time. i cussed everyone on this sight and thought everyone was full of crap and str8 razors sucked and couldnt compete with DE's..... well the experience str8 shavers we completely correct and i was wrong. u dont just scrape the razor on the strop. thats an art in itself. now after about 20 r so shaves im getting GREAT shaves. im by no means an expert but my face dont look like ground beef when im done. i actually dont nick myself anymore. thanks to all for all the invaluable info for newbies like me!!!!!!

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

My first shave with a straight wasn't bad. I was so careful that I didn't even nick myself. The next 14 shaves, there was blood. Since then, I improved my technique, and have gotten progressively better. My shave today was BBS with just 2 passes. Thats quite an accomplishment for a months experience in my opinion.

Im not sure if it gets better than this, but I like what I'm getting!

Apology easily accepted, you are not the first and I hope not the last. May you have many happy shaves in the future.

I'm sure everyone here can accept the apology. I don't ever remember reading anything about it but it takes a man to stand up to his wrongs and make them right! good job!

I'm really glad your shaves are improving. It's important when you're startign out to take stropping really slowly and try and be really precise. I think too many people may have seen old movies where they DO seem to be simply 'scraping the razor on the strop' with utter abandon...

Your apology will be accepted if you promise to pay it forward with patience and advice to the newbies that follow after you. Glad you didn't give up. If you have any questions in the future, and I'm sure you will, we're here to answer.

Glad you are finally getting a decent shave. Like many have said, they will get much better with time and technique.
