Thread: Hello all. does this exist?

Hi. I am new to straight razors and I would very much like to get a razor which is no more than 2 inches in blade length. Does such a beast exist? I have googled and googled and I don't think it does. If someone knows something about this I'd love to hear about it. If not I'm wondering if someone could perhaps make one by cutting down a longer blade and how much it might cost?

There are razors that have been cut down because of blade damage.

My question would be why you would want a shorter blade?

Sure, there's no reason you can't grind down a longer blade to 2". That's entirely possible.

But again, the question is why? Is it because of maneuverability? If so...practice with a regular blade length will eventually become easy to manipulate.

Hello Sol. Welcome to SRP. You might want to look in our classifieds member services section and ask some
of our restoration custom work members. Cutting down a razor to the size you would like can certainly be done
as well as having a custom made with a 2" cutting edge. And as has been pointed out this is done to damaged blades frequently and it can certainly be done to a brand new sraight as well. Good luck.

Also some of the Drawf razors are close ie: Dubl Duck made the Drawf, Baby, and the Shrimp these are rare but there are other brands that made the 2 1/2 target size some are slightly longer

Any razor can be made into a Shorty pretty easy...

You guys are cool, thanks for the quick replies. Right now I have a beard which I shape with a blade which is just shy of 3". I do a good job but also feel that I'd have an easier time with a blade from about 1.5" - 2" for better control especially on my neck since I am only shaving the lower couple of inches there its really hard to cut a straight line in any direction but up which leaves a fair bit of stubble. I need to cut across my neck right to left without cutting too much hair nor my neck itself.

I have a Robeson that I picked up about a year ago with a blade about a 3" blade. I think it may be a womens razor intended to fit arm pits.

I measure it and post a photo as soon as I get home tonight.

Welcome to SRP. There is a vintage (old no longer made) razor with a long 'monkey tail' that was called "the perfect razor" and IIRC it had a 2 1/2 long cutting edge from heel to point. I cannot think of the name of the manufacturer off the top of my head though. Someone may read this and know, and post, the name of the razor I'm thinking of.

yes there are many Japanese straights and all kamisori that are less than 2" long.

Are there any small travel razors that would work for him?
