Thread: Disaster averted!

So I was enjoying a great neck only shave last night. Got in the habit of doing only my neck only late in the week because I cant stand the growth down there. Soo itchy! But I enjoy the face stubble over the weekend. Fits my persona I guess. Anyway, I finished up a super WTG pass, rinsed the razor and layed it on the sink, proceeded to rinse my face off. Then, oh so nonchalantly reached down to grab the Dovo for a much anticipated second pass and immediately realized something was just not right. Granted, I had a few brewskies in my gut by that point but this mishap just blew my mind. Instead of grasping the cheap plastic handle of my trusty stubble chopper I attempted to pick it up by it's blade! My thumb gripped the edge of the blade like it was picking up a toothbrush. I'm talkin' positive pressure directly against the edge. once I realized what was done I let off immediately of course. Crazy thing is...my skin was not even phased by this direct contact with what is supposed to be an almost surgical grade instrument. And, yes I am a newbie but my stropping has progressed to a sufficient level and I no longer nick the strop. So I know the sharpness of my Dovo is up to par. And it's not like I have some kind of superhuman callused hands that have layed brick since they were 10. I assume it all comes down to the way the pressure of the skin is distributed across the length of the blade. From what I can remember there was no lateral movement on my part, just perpendicular pressure against the edge. You would think there would be at least the top layer slit open right!? I made sure I stropped the hell out of it afterwards to straighten everything back out. Anyways..just thought I'd share. Has anyone else done something so very stupid?

I once reached into the sink at my old job to pull out the tomato slicer. Grabbed the handle and stuck my thumb in for counter pressure to lift... guess what my thumb was bracing against? That being said the interlocking joint of the blade into my thumb probably provided a better grip .

I was not so lucky, no lucky pressure distribution there!

You might want to consider having your alcohol after your shave. Think of it as a reward for a good, completed, safe shave.
