Thread: What balm/lotion to use in between shaves?

I'm not a straight razor shaver yet but hopefully will be in the next few weeks. I've read a lot about lotions and balms for aftershave, but I was wondering what everyone does on the days you don't shave (if you skip a day)? Just use whatever aftershave you would normally use?

A little background. The skin on my neck is really sensitive. I tried shaving consecutively for three days and the irritation got a little worse with each day. I normally only shave once or twice a week because of this. I'd like to shave more often but I'm not sure if my neck will put up with it. I'm thinking maybe I'll shave two days and then skip a day. I'm also hoping that as my straight razor skills progress over time, the irritation won't be an issue anymore. I use Nivea after shave balm for sensitive skin and that has been a lifesaver for taming the irritation. Without it, the soreness can sometimes last for more than a day. Should I just keep applying the Nivea on the off days?

That's a personal thing actually, there are hundreds of ASB's etc on the market to try, I personally don't like the smell of Nivea, but I hear it works great, I like Truefit and Hill Grafton ASB myself but as I said it's a personal choice...however if the Nivea is working for you, well if it ain't broke........

Vaseline for Men..... Cheap and easy.

I also don't like the smell of Nivea but it's what works for me until I can try out more stuff.

I'll also have to check out Vaseline for men (lotion, I presume?).

One thing I forgot to ask in my first post is will using an after shave balm continue to help the healing process on my skin a day after the last shave, or does it really only work right after a shave? If not, I'm guessing most moisturizers would suffice.

It keeps helping AFAIK, Always feels nice on the skin, and the smells are soooooo nice
