    Default stropping new Dovo

Just got a Dovo best. This is my first straight razor, but I can tell it could be a touch sharper. I have a balsa strop loaded with 1 micron diamond spray and a leather strop with .5 micron diamond spray. I could finish with plain leather. I've dealt with knives a lot but this is my first straight razor. Should I be good to go with the .5 micron and then on leather or do I need to go finer? Any advice before I go after my first shave would be appreciated.

I've watched several of the videos for shaving. Also a few on the honing and stropping as well, so I'm ready for the technique. I'm glad I watched because I've done a lot of knives, but this is different to say the least.

To be quite honest, don't experiment on a new razor. use an Eboy special for that. I would send it out to be initially honed and then you will know how it should be giving you a reference. Unless you really know what you are doing exercise caution here.

I agree. It is too difficult as a new straight user to know sharpness vs technique. Have it pro-honed for now and get used to straight shaving for about 6+ months at least before trying honing.

Getting the razor honed first is the best bet. You can try the .5. If the razor is close you might get a little improvement. Most likely that won't be enough, but it might work.
