Finding local shops is difficult. The only "Chain" I know of is Art of Shaving. They have a DE kit, but it is pricy compared to what you can get online. I believe online is the best way to go. Look in the vendor area, or check out Straight Razor Designs.

I have to agree with Tattooface, wolf pac. I've spent days looking for a "brick and mortar" retail, with no luck. Online offers the best variety of products and pricing. I believe it to be the only way to go and could be fun.

In this hobby, it seems as though most of our purchasing is done through online stores and vendors. I would suggest that you check out Straight Razor Designs. Their strops are excellent. If you want to save money on a razor, check our classifieds or some of the vendor's websites. Good luck with your search....let us know how it pans out.

I know this vendor is in Florida:

    The Superior Shave

and I _think_ he's in Jacksonville.

He'll have what you need, and he hones his razors before sale.

Put your own kit together at places like Straight Razor Designs. Ruprazor makes a nice, cheap strop called a Filly that works well and you won't be screaming bloody hell when it gets cut up, as many newbies do to their strops.

Check out the sight unseen deal at whippeddog.com. For less than $50 you get a straight razor, basic strop, prepped balsa strop, extra powder for the balsa strop, and some neatsfoot oil for the leather strop. you don't know exactly what kind of razor you're going to get but it'll be freshly honed and the surprise makes it a bit exciting. I think it's a good idea to use the basic strop for practice because you will probably nick the strop while learning the motion (I already have) and it would suck to do that to a brand new $80 strop. Once you get some shaves in you can pick up another razor that catches your eye.

It's what I'm doing, got my kit about 5 days ago... New straight shaver myself.
