    Question Slice 'N Go

Well, I've been shaving with my Dovo Prima Klang for about 5 shaves. I must admit how I enjoy using a straight over my previous DE. I admit it is really hard curve to learn. So far I can shave both sides no problem, but fail at the chin and neck. For this I fall back to Merkur 34c. From what I'm reading this is typical, and the neck and chin are the hardest. Anyways, I have noticed something unusual. I've named it the "Slice 'N Go" (unless already named)

Basically I complete the shave, look in the mirror, Looking good! and walk away. 2 days later I notice extremely thin slices on my face where I shaved. Not bleeding but clearly visible. I have three cats so when I get sliced I know pretty quick!, but with the straight razor, not a single sign until the second day... Am I the only one?

Well, I don't know. I got my first cut yesterday morning and I can tell you that I KNEW instantly I had done something very wrong. It felt like I had just touched my face with a red hot blade. And it was exactly that... a light touch. I can't imagine what would result if there was any pressure behind the blade at the wrong angle.

But it did take a little while for the red line to show up...but by a little time I mean 30 seconds. Still there too...but I kinda like it... it makes me look tough. LOL.

Feel a little hot on the right cheek (where I shave with the straight tonight, for the first time!). Looking in the mirror..... Yes it is red, hope the balm helps. I read it is somewhat normal for the first few shave. No slice yet. Double O

One thing is razor burn, what I was talking about was a sharp burning sensation that signaled to me I had put the edge on my skin at too large an angle. (like 45 degrees...lol) I am still learning how to shave my left side and my technique is still a little awkward on that side, so I flubbed it.

It also impressed again the importance of staying 100% focused on the task. I'm conviced that 99% of all nicks are the result of taking your eye off the ball.

Sounds to me like you are using some slight lateral motion with the straight as you shave which is a no-no. It's probably so slight it's not deep enough to cause bleeding and isn't noticeable until a time later as the slice begins to dry out and becomes noticeable.

i was gonna say the same thing spender ive done it a few time and belive me it dosent take much of a sliding motion across the face to start to cut and if its just breakign skin then its not bleeding but after it starts to heal it becomes visable, my best advice for you is to slow down and do your best not to allow the razor to move sideways in a slicing motion at all.

Yep. I had that on my very first shave. I thought i'd gotten away with a full 2 passes unscathed, but an hour or so later I had two tiny thin red slice marks on the lower part of my neck where i started my upwards ATG pass. I think it showed up quicker for me because there's something in what i put on my face after my shave that irritates my skin.

I put it down to very nervous and tenuous placement of the blade against my skin which comes with a slight slicing motion by default. I've since gone for a slightly more decisive movement in the right direction as I'm placing it on my skin and havent had it happen again.

Might i also add that from my experience, doing anything that cats dont like comes wiht a certain amount of slicing. I'd probably avoid trying to shave them

This happens to me from time to time (usually when I'm in a rush and not being careful). Not a lot of damage, but really embarrassing. Big reminder to slow down and take care!

I have had this happen, not sure what the term is, "Slice n' Go" works for me. I think this happens to me when my lather starts drying out and the blade "Skips", or I touch the razor to my face with to much pressure before I start a stroke. I think eliminating this comes down to me paying attention to my prep and the task at hand. Good Luck
