Thread: Disappointing first shave.

Get it professionally honed if you have any doubt at all about whether it is sharp enough. (it probably does need to be honed) Even if it is, since it is your first shave you may just need to just improve your technique with practice. The first shave is not easy, and neither is the second, or the third, but they get better!

Well my Dovo and all my set up arrived today so I was looking forward to finishing work and having a nice shave, been watching vids and asking questions for a week so, so I thought I was as ready as a newbie could be. . .

There's a _long_ learning curve. Don't beat yourself up about it.

In general, "razor burn" and "too much pressure" go together. If the blade is sharp, you can use a _very_ light touch and it'll still be shaving. Two or three very light passes may be necessary, but you're face won't be raw.

The aphorism is:

. . . think beard _reduction_, not beard _removal_.

Styptic pencils really work well.

The more gentle my touch, the fewer cuts I get.
