Since I have a water softener in my home many of my razors stain much faster than before when I was using extremely hard water.

Thanked: 3Had similar problem...
I had a similar problem with my brand new Dovo. After taking several suggestions, what ended up working for me was this:
Don't get the scales wet during the shave.
After your done shaving dry the blade well, including the scales (I use a piece of folded toilet paper to get in the small spaces).
After drying I apply a small amount of mineral oil to the blade before I store it for the next day.
I started doing this and all my water spots and small rust spots stopped appearing. Also I would reccomend not storing your razor in your bathroom because of all the extra humidity. These steps worked for me, hopefully they will be useful to you. Good luck!
Cheers!

According to the OP the problem happens 5 minutes into the shave. I'm doubting that is solely a storage or maintenance issue.

Rusting blades I would think are more common for those that live in humid climates. I spent way too much time in NC and if you stored let's say a bicycle out in the garage, in two years it would be full of rust. I am so glad I live in NV now. We have very low humidity. Even though I smack the scales on a towel to get as much moisture out of them. But then I still leave the razor in a safe location and open for the night so I know it is completely dry before the blade goes back in the scales.
