Had my 4th shave today (skipped a couple days to let new skin form from having removed it all with the first 3 shaves). It was much better than the others. . . . Pretty much no irritation, which is wonderful. I resisted the temptation to go over spots nonstop and do 100 passes like the last couple times, which I'm sure is a big contributor there. . . . I got a few millimeter nicks on the chin, but that was about it. Styptic put it out pretty much instantly. (By the way, does the styptic usually hurt/burn on small nicks? Because it didn't for me, like at all. Post shave alum block over whole face has a nice light burn though.) Looking forward to my next shave.
You're doing fine. Ideally, the razor should never shave an area of dry skin -- so "buffing" is a bad idea (though it works for some people). Better to re-lather, and do another pass.

If styptic pencil doesn't burn, feel lucky!

I get better results on my neck if I _really_ stretch the skin in front of the blade. It's loose (at my age, it has a right to be loose), and tends to bunch-up and catch in front of the razor's edge. The temptation to use a DE for the neck is very, very strong.<g>

Yeah, I didn't really even try buffing. I just went over spots again with no lather. Bad idea. Lol.

Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely continue to try to improve my techniques upon subsequent shaves.
