Default Receiving first straight razor shave question?

I am attending a wedding on Saturday, and was thinking of getting my first straight razor shave at a barbor shop on Friday morning. The problem I am having is that I have really sensitive skin. I use a typical Gillette razor now and have to cleanse my face prior to shaving and use moisturizer after in order to have minimal razor burn or in grown hairs. I am not sure if a straight razor shave would be ok for my skin or have a negative end result that would not be good for wedding picks? also another question I had is if it has only been a couple days since I last shave ( I am contimplating shaving tonight or just waiting till friday) will it not effect the smoothness of the straight shave? also doest the shave stay close for a couple days?

I will appreciate any advice that you may have, I am completly new to this and know nothing about it.

    Thanks again,
    Kevin

I don't usually discourage anyone from trying something. But if it were me, I would have my first Razor shave after attending the wedding. I'm sure it would be fine, but it gives you one less thing to worry about.

I agree^^ I why risk it? No one can tell you that you will not have a reaction to the shave, or the product!

Shaving with a straight should be done with no pressure of any kind. Time and events included. I'd wait until after before I began.

i would've just wait after, btw, I also have a sensitive skin, I can only shave twice a week, but in my case im quite lucky, the more thinner & sharper the blade is the more my skin reacted. so now since i've been using straight i get less red dots & irritation on my skin

I think you would be fine if you went to the right place, however before your big day is probably not the best time to find out.

Where do you live maybe I can suggest somebody.

I would have to agree with easyace on his comment...not to discourage you from starting straight shaving, but just before a big event might not be a prudent time to try it knowing you have sensitive skin and might not know the initial outcome of the shave or the types of soaps used on your face. I am sure it would be fine, but it is one less stressor on an already stressfull day. Save that shave for a time you can truely relax and enjoy it.

Thank you very much everyone on the input! I think I will just wait until after to get it done. I live in Oceanside CA ( north Sand Diego county) any suggestions on a location?

I don't Know of any others near you other than hawleywoods there are locations in long beach, costa Mesa and Huntington beach. I have heard many good things about their shop.
