    Default Shaves getting better

Finally got my str8 to pop hairs from my arm. Tonights shave was not bad went straight from hone to shave. So when i strop before next shave hopes are it will be better then tonight. One question how often should you use the paste strop? Also not anything to do with shaving but how do you get the marker on the google map? It goes to where I am but no marker. Thanks for all the help.

Click "Your entry" at the top of the map. Then set your marker location.

First off - Big Congrats on getting your first shaveable edge. Its very satisfying. I'm very deep in my learning curve, but do love my edges now. Keep posting your questions - the help here is outta this world. 184 blades honed as of last night. I'll feel better when it 10x that.

HNSB When I do that i see a red marker and move it to my location. If you click on my location it goes to Hobbs but there is no marker. I see where there is a URL for the marker location but not sure where that URL is.
pinklather I started from stratch thinking that i needed to learn how to hone at one point so i picked the starting point to learn. It will help in the long run since I am not giving up now.

When we upgraded the software, a setting got changed in the map software that prevented new markers from being published to the map. It is fixed now, and your marker is on the map.

Thanks for pointing out the problem. There were 90 users that didn't have markers published. You were the first to point it out.

HNSB Thank You. And now to the good news. Ran 15 laps on my homemade paddle strop on the paste side. Then 50 laps on the leather side. Was the best shave yet. Getting better with the left hand and chin is not so bad with a sharp str8. Didnt think i would but I really look forward to shaving now. Thanks for all the help. For all who are thinking this is way to hard dont give up it will be worth it end the long run.

    Hey JSan,

You sound like a purist, learning to hone right up front and with a homemade paddle strop. I'm glad to hear it's going well for you. The best part is that it only gets better as all your skills improve.

HNSB--thanks for fixing this. I had noticed that some new people had an active My location link but weren't showing on the map. I just shrugged and move on. Now I can see if there are any new kids on my block.

I use the pasted strop every few shaves for each straight I have. If I notice the staight razor is struggling a bit to smoothly shave xtg, then its time for some laps on the pasted strop. This combined with a barber hone can keep the edge and bevel going a long, long time.

Experience really adds to the quality of shave, so keep at it and don't be afraid to try new things.

Went two days without a shave just to see how my str8 handled that since I am not sure if its as sharp as it needs to be. Did 10 laps with pasted paddle strop and 50 laps on leather paddle strop. No tugging or pulling sounded like buttering toast. Tonight just did 50 laps on leather and had the same result. Decided to go with Skin Bracer AS to check for irritation surprised myself only stung for about 10 seconds mostly on my cheeks. Also for what its worth the last week I have been doing cold water shaves. All I have been doing is washing my face soap and water then rinsing with cold water. Applying lather and shaving. Feels nice and smooth.
