I'll answer before he asks, I use the C12k, also know as a PHIG (Peoples Hone of Indeterminate Grit) Ans they are good, but they are a pig to lap flat. Once done though, you would rarely (if ever?) need to go back to it, and it would be easier the next time around, as you are already working with a reasonably flat face after the first lapping.
Keep in mind that I am the epitomy of cheap bastards, and I won't go out of my way to spend wads of cash on something that I see as going back to basics. I shave, it's not a hobby, it's not a chore, but it is a pleasure...Now!

The c12k is a good stone (as you would know mick lol), i actually think it is as good as my shapton 16k (if not better). I am falling for the jnats though lol

@q31 if i was you i would just look at the c12k in a 3x8" for now, its cheap and gives a nice edge, it cuts slowly so it reduces the risk of over honing.

Edit: Still, your 4/8k should do the trick though!

But first i would send the wade and butcher to get honed.

The point is, an Escher or any fine polisher is just that, a fine polisher. It refines an already good edge from the previous stone so unless you have a very good edge first it will not necessarily improve things.

I think it's just the way he ends every sentence with "Glasshopper" that makes him sound wise. Mostly I think Os is just lucky...

Default as good as I can do

Here is as good as I feel I can accomplish on the Wade. This is about an hour of work starting with a 1k norton. It had some nicks in it that i wanted to clean out. After the 1k I didn't spend too much time on the 4 or 8 but here it is. When I feel I'm done, I do two spine first laps on the 8k. How do these look? The two horizontal shots are to show most of the bevel as clearly as I can. The vertical pic is to give a close up of the finish. Feedback??

Some will point out that your bevel is uneven, which is true but bevel shape doesn't necessarily translate to a bad edge. Give it a test shave and you tell us how it is.....

it is uneven but they are unevenness directly mirrors the oposite side, so I'm guessing the blade is bent or warped or something. It gets sharp though.

Apart from the obvious warp, all I can tell about the edge is it may have an incomplete bevel at the heel. Talking bout the small shiny strip at the edge as per below pic... or that can be a rolled stroke. So hard to guess from pics

I hit the heal on the table moving it around for pics. Just shaved with the wade and it was better than my fromm. I had to strop it twice during shaving to keep things civil.
