Red face About to have my first shave with a straight razor...

Hey guys, I'm new around here. I have been shaving with a DE for a few months now and was interested in giving straight razors a try. I bought some at an antique store (a Dubl Duck Satinedge and a Griffon Cutlery Works) for a whopping $27 total. I googled "honemeister minneapolis" and the first result was a thread on SRP of someone asking the same question. That's how I found RandyDance. He lives in St. Paul, so two days ago (the 15th) I went over to his house to learn how to hone and strop. He honed my Griffon and showed me what I need to do to restore my Dubl Duck. The blade still has some life left in it (50 years by Randy's reckoning) but the scales were shot and need to be replaced. He even gave me a strop to use until I can get one of my own!
So anyways, I think tonight is the night I'm going to give this baby a try. I'm a little nervous so I plan on just doing my cheeks/chin for now. I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Awesome! Randy is the one that patiently taught me practically everything. I think I was the cause of at least 100 posts from Randy that always started with "more time on the 4k"

And AFDavis11 was kind enough to pass some of that teaching on to me in person. That kind of personal instruction is invaluable. Good luck!
