The secret to how I get BBS shaves every time....

A simple change in my shaving has allowed me to get BBS shaves every time I shave now. And when I say BBS I mean everywhere on my face and irritation free. It's not related to lathering, or honing, or anything physical. It is a mental exercise..!

What I do: I try to use the razor to simply wipe the lather from my face as easily and smoothly as possible. I do 3 passes: WTG, XTG, ATG and I don't worry about removing whiskers, just the lather. I try to do this with as light a touch as possible to get the lather all off.

The outcome: perfect BBS shaves every time with no irritation!

Obviously the ease at which I remove the lather is a function of a sharp razor, correct lather, etc. But assuming my lather is right and my razor is sharp, this simple exercise has made my shaving much more efficient, close, and irritation free.

It is getting rather routine at this point...

But you know what they say, pride cometh before the fall.... Every time I think I'm great at stropping I nick the hell out of my strop and have to repair it! So, I'll keep that styptic on hand just in case!!

Yes, I have practiced classical guitar for a few years, too. I think all the fine motor skills developed help us transition into a successful wet shaving life.

carazor, I'd like to agree with you completely but I think those of us with acutely angled hairs have to keep in mind the angle of the razor moreso than simply wiping off lather in order to be successful with later (more aggressive) passes. I have to mentalize it as scooping through them from underneath.

Violin for me, but the light touch is King, stropping is King, Honing is errr, never mind. light touch is the way to go.

I play an upright bass, it is big and clunky and takes no precision. I equate the light touch I need to shave to how I would put icing on a cake.
