Thanks pinklather! I definitely am using a bit too much pressure at times. I'll try to lighten up. As far as the Geneva, I've talked with Larry at whipped dog, and he thinks he shouldn't have any problem honing out the flaw. Just being new to this, I obviously don't know much, but I sure like the feel of the Geneva blade. I am also sending him a dub duck that might be beyond repair. These razors were given to my dad by an old friend who used to be a barber. They've been sitting in the bottom of his old knife collection case for 30+ years. It would be nice to bring them back to life!

Did you read through Larry's shaving manual? He wrote a pretty good beginners guide to straight shaving that gives you realistic expectations of your first few straight shaves. In a few weeks you will want to start adding in some ATG strokes, this will give you the close shave everyone is talking about. Don't forget to stretch your skin and very slowly start incorporating a slicing motion into your strokes, it is easier to slice than push cut. You can trust that Larry honed it right, but if you really feel there is a problem with your razor he will make it right. Good luck and be patient, you'll get the hang of it.

UPD, yes I have read his manual. I think I was just be too impatient with my expectations. I never doubted the sharpness of the razor, in fact I mailed Larry 2 more today to hone. My technique has improved greatly the couple shaves, therefore the shave itself has greatly improved. Thanks!
