    Default Why get into Shaving?

My friend is seemingly interested in the whole shaving thing now that I have started into it. He e-mailed me and asked how it was all going – this was my reply. I thought I would post it as it might help the new noobs … as I still consider myself a noob.

Bar none; it’s all about the product! It seems to me that all pre-shave stuff is one oil or another and other than scent, it’s all pretty boring but! It makes the face slippy, and that’s priceless. I forgot to put it on one day and had more blood … let’s just say I am a believer.

The real magic however, starts as you lather up with your brush! It not only removes dead skin, it softens your beard and also conditions your skin. Of course you scrape and wash this all off during the shave, but the scent lingers which is important to keep in mind because when you put on the aftershave, the two will have scent intercourse! The enhancement of the two coming together can be awesome!

The aftershave is even more magic for me and the part that when all is said and done, has the wife reaching in for a kiss just to smell it. Other than that benefit, mine also claims to have vitamin d and c, but the “fresh” feeling it gives is hard to put into words. Kind of gets you ready to take on the day.

The use of product alone has done more for my face than anything I can think of other than Noxzema (that stuff is gold – oh and by the way, a great product to use before shaving. It makes the skin tight).

Anyway, the closest shave I have ever given myself came at the end of a safety razor. Though I am enamored with my straight razor, there is a learning curve and it isn’t done in days! It took a week before I was even comfortable with my grip. I kind of miss my safety and the ease of blade change and shave, but I am determined to learn my str8 as its well, it’s just so f**king cool. Know this though, with respect to the safety razor if you go that route – go online and buy sample packs! The difference in shaves between one blade and another is simply remarkable.

All said and done, it’s about the experience. Being a new dad, the 15 to 20 minutes after a shower I devote to shaving is pure me time. Plus somehow for me – it’s kind of a confidence booster. Other than my wife loving the smell and smoothness, taking pride in my grooming makes me more aware of my style and clothing - leading to an overall boost! It’s a weird leap I know – but a great one so far! I recommend it!

I like the enthusiasm that comes through in your post. The whole process of wet shaving can give a person a time to slow down and reflect. I love shaving with a straight razor for the way it feels in my hand, the way it glides over my face, and the way it gives a BBS shave. Ultimately, the reason I shave with a straight razor is for sheer pleasure and enjoyment.

Glad to have you aboard. Good Luck and Happy Shaving!
