Work on your angles and pressure that could help prevent it. After you shave do a cold water rinse and I suggest witch hazel fallowed by your choice of aftershave splash. IMHO this gets the best results. As for healing it just take a few days off shaving, its the only thing that worked for me.

I've run into the same problem.
Turned out to be the whole mess of typical problems: bad angle, not a good soap etc.

What I have found that works beter then I could ever imagined is: Hawaiian Tropic Cool Aloe Ice with Lidocaine Burn Relief Gel. The instant I put this on it cooled my neck off and it stayed cool the rest of the day. After a couple nights of putting it on before bed, the skin was healed and the burn has not returned....oh, I also started paying attention to my razor angles, pressure and the amount/quality of lather on my face.

I have just one product that really helped: Tend Skin

I used to get razor burn like you wouldn't believe, and it was always due to my technique. I was told about Tend Skin early on, and I got some. Boy does it help relieve the irritation. I used it until my technique improved enough that I don't burn myself so bad.

Now I found that some razors I have burn me worse than others. The thinner the blade, the more important the angle seemed to be. I have a wedge that leaves NO burn, despite me. I have some full hollows that burn me no matter what I do. Having a few extra razors to try helps figure things out as well. I bought quite a few (I'm up to around 20 now) and I have 4 razors shave ready that I use consistently because they shave well, and I can use them well.

I've sold razors on ebay that I thought were wonderful razors when I bought them, but turned out to be too harsh for me. I've got a boker full hollow that burns me up every time, and I spent a ton on it. Yet, I have a 15$ kerry-gow that shaves smooth as butter. You should get some cheap, honed razors (classifieds here, whippeddog.com) to give you a point of comparison. Make sure it's not your technique, and what's left is the razor.

I'm talking to much tonite, and sometimes I think I don't know what the heck I'm talking about. I hope this ramble made some sense and helped you a bit.

    Good luck!!!

    What soap are you using?
