Thread: Not by the hair on my chinie chin chin...

So I've shaved a few times with my new razor, and I keep having difficulties with shaving my chin. My facial hair changes direction a bit there and I was wondering if anyone ran into similar problems or had a piece of advice? It's also a tough place for me to get my skin tought and flat to avoid a gash.

Take your time. Go very slow. Do a little bit each time and do NOT try to get all of your chin on your early shaves. There are so many angles and shapes to navigate. You will be better using your dominate hand so leave the other side of your chin alone for a while. Hold the razor very loose in your hand, do not try to dig in with it or to force it in anyway. Most of all be patient, you will learn this skill. It just takes time to learn your face and to learn what direction your beard grows. Be satisfied at first just going with the grain of your beard. And relax, breathe. This is a lot of fun.

Direction or not the chin is always a more advanced maneuver. I found I had to get a good bit of facility with the razor before I was able to get a good shave there which took a few months of shaving. You just have to take it slow and don't push ahead of your abilities. Eventually the skill will come. For now once you stretch the skin and try different angles with the razor and various strokes that's about all you can do.

For me, the chin is by far the most difficult part of the shave. In addition to the different growing directions, the whiskers there are just flat tough to cut. I go at it from different directions and try to vary blade angle to get at them. Even after months of this, it is still difficult and takes time and practice.

My chin was the hardest part for me too. I try to shave the chin in four sections.
