    Default Hi Everyone

Just thought I would say hi to everyone, I've been using one of those straight razors that you replace the blade as got it when I was 17 (now 18) and couldn't afford a real one. So now I can, I'm going to get a Dovo 6/8 'Best Quality' as it seems a good beginners razor, and a Dovo strop unless anyone has any other recommendations.
Also just want to say what a great forum as learned alot from it thanks.

    B25,

Welcome! I have heard that shaving with a straight is easier than using a disposable. I have not tried a disposable so I cannot comment. I will agree with you about the amount of in formation on this site. It is sometimes a little overwhelming! I am always digging into the wiki or archives to search out questions I have. I always find answers but I always find more questions to answer. Straight shaving in my experience is a skill where you definitely "don't know what you don't know." The more I learn, the more questions i think of. Welcome to SRP! Good to see you posting. Keep us updated on how the 'best quality' works out.

Hey! It's excellent to see that someone else has used a straight razor since 18! Hopefully the disposable will at least have given you the angle you need to manage your first real straight. I've used a straight myself since I first stated shaving on account of the fact my grandfather who taught me hadn't even heard of a Mach3.

I have to admit that I have been cheating with safety razor for the last couple of years. As a lawyer I never seem to have time, but I'm back onto real shaving again, ordered a new straight and can't wait. I guess I am going to be a beginner too as I haven't used a real razor in years. Let us know how your new razor works out, I'm looking forward to reading it!

I agree, this is a great website!

    Hi and welcom in Boney25,

It's great that you are getting started in this forum - it is invaluable to get you started.

One thing I wanted to point out to you on the Dovo Best Quality. It is only a beginner's razor from the cost and frills standpoint. That is a really good razor and should last you a lifetime if properly cared for - and that is the same for any razor. So know if that is your budget and direction that you did not invest in a razor that will need to be upgraded unless you choose to.

Take your time with this - you will have a couple of new skills to develop.

Wow you are lucky i don't even have a dovo now, but i hear it is a good started, how ever i would check out "wippeddog" its a site that is made for beginners, the razors have been used but they are restored, cleaned, sterlized, and best of all good quality. Also they have something called the poor man strop. But there is nothing wrong with jumping right in and getting a dovo, i did not have the guts to, i did not want to mess up a piece of art.

Dovo Best Quality was my first razor. I got it as a set from SRD with a strop mug soap and brush. It came shave ready. The greates part it was honedby SRD. Great shaver. Just waite when you get your first and then the RAD sets in. I think I have 8 and atleast 3 on the way I kind of lost count and a number of STR8 im bidding on ebay.

    Be warned RAD is strong.

P.S. Can some one who is good with photo shope come up with a picture of "This is your Brain on RAD"? would be great lol

    Ricky,

The Dovo Best is a fine 'workhorse' razor that shaves well above its price point

I still use mine in my rotation, and always will !

Good luck and good shaving !

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ
