    Welcome.
The Wiki has a lot of information on pastes, strops and hones.

For me: started with an SRD-honed straight, SRD strop daily, CrOx smeared on balsa wood every couple of weeks and a barbers hone every 6 weeks or so when I feel the CrOx is not getting me where I want to be.
This has worked for me for over a Year without the need to send the straights back to Lynn for a touch up.

    Belicoso,

What you are doing is EXACTLY what I was thinking of doing. Could you share with me what barber's hone you are using? That is the last piece of the puzzle for me. I expect to receive my "Special" by the end of this week.

    Thanks for the info.

I'm curious as well. I'm thinking about picking up a barber's hone for exactly the same reason.

I have a "perfection" home I got from e-bay. I made sure there were no cracks or chips and spent some time lapping it with sandpaper as recommended in the Wiki. I think I was lucky with my find, If I had to do it again I would buy one from one of the members or trusted sources from here.

    Enjoy

IMO, you can never go wrong with a Swaty, Franz or Pike. Just make sure it isn't cracked or has big chips anywhere the blade would contact.
