    I will update my profile.
Perhaps I did round the edge while stropping. Is that caused by poor technique? Too much pressure? Or flipping incorrectly?
By the way, love your truck and car. Amazing how many of us have the same obsessions. Many people I have talked to who enjoy the "manly things", like shaving, are also into cars, watches, cameras, guns. And in most cases, a Higher Power. Thanks, Jim. God Bless you for your interest, encouragement and help.

Rounding the edge: Yes, poor technique, too much pressure, flipping incorrectly.

    Thanks for the compliments.

    God's blessings on you too.

Glad you got back on that horse. I'm new to straights myself...been into them for several months, but only been able to shave with them for a little over a week. I started with a square point and have only nicked myself one time (ear lobe). I have one round point, but it's not honed so it's in my bin with my hones.

I think it's more likely that you've gotten used to shaving with your round point, and are making some movements that your square point just won't forgive you for. Square points don't have the grace that round points have...but they're still great for shaving.

Keep at it, and keep us up to date.

    Peace,

    Hey, Jim.

I do like my square points, but I've made my share of pinklather. Just today w/ a beautiful boker french point.

Some guys have persistent trouble w/ square/spike points. Should you wish to lessen the risks, you can run the last 1/16" of the edge over the rim of a drinking glass once or twice w/ only the weight of the blade on it. It will collapse the edge in that part & make it slightly less carnivorous. It still amazes me how fine and frail those edges are. 6 months from now, I doubt you'll think twice about whatever point is in your hands. Keep shaving & learning. It gets even better.
