Thread: Need to make the whole blade equaly sharp

Well i have just started honing and i have a problem, the tip of the blade is no that sharp, The bottom part is really sharp it, when i run the blade over my nail it starts to dig into my nail but then it just feels dull. How can i get the other part sharp and give an equal amount of sharpness to the blade

Have you tried X strokes? Even pressure across the whole blade. It's not uncommon that one part of the blade will become sharp before the rest begins to dial in.

It's hard without seeing the blade or your honing technique to really tell. You may be concentrating without meaning to on the heel or the blade could be uneven or warped. Try X strokes and rolling them ever so slightly by lifting the scales a very tiny bit as you get toward the toe. If your technique is uneven, you may not have set a proper bevel on the toe either.

Hi there, and welcome to SRP! Your question is very hard to answer, since you said nothing about what kind of blade you got, what kind of hones you have nor what you already tried. Often when I have those problems I will try a rolling x pattern, or perhaps heel-forward strokes.

Is the edge on both sides in contact with the whole stone surface when you lay the razor flat on the stone?
Try circles in sets of 20 followed by 10 x strokes at 45 degree angle to the stone, check the sharpness after every set.
