    Default First scuttle shave

I've been using a straight for a few months a few times per week and am still learning, but getting better. After reading the forums, I got an rbecker scuttle (small and pretty inexpensive, 11 bucks) from the bay. Wow. It is not only good to have a dedicated mug (I'd been using a small jar), but nice to have hot lather too.

Never would have thought about getting one till I read the advice on this site. Thanks. Maybe I'll move up to a bigger one in the future, although this one kept the lather hot for a long time (at least 45 minutes).

Whether we have been doing this for a few months or a few years, it is amazing how we pick up little tips or tricks from each other on this forum that make the hobby just a little bit more enjoyable.

This is probably the one thing i haven't tried yet, using hot lather. I never thought it would make that big of a difference...but now I'm thinking i should give it a shot. Where did you buy your scuttle?

I got mine form rbecker on e-bay. I learned of his work from reading about scuttles and different kinds in the forums. His store is Robert's Ceramic Feats of Clay--you can also google it. SRD also has bigger scuttles than the one I bought. I didn't plan on getting one, but now that I tried it, it was a good experience. It was amazing how long the lather stayed hot.

I would +1 the advice on a scuttle. I too was doubtful, but the warm lather (especially on the second and third shaving passes) is so luxurious! I got mine from Julie Moore at Dirty Bird Pottery - Wheel thrown and hand crafted home goods, kitchenware, gardenware, shaving pieces and more.... Check out her 1.5 Scuttle which is very popular and also nice to look at! Really a piece of art!

Or do a search here on the forums for "dirty bird" and you will see all the raving testimonials! The only downside is that it takes about 3 weeks to get from the time you order it, but that's a testimonial to how in-demand they are!

Mine came a week ago and it's amazing how it completes the shaving experience for me!
