    Default 1st REAL Shave.

So after a couple of shave attempts with razors I was practicing my honing on, I finally got my razors back from honing today. So what did I do? I shaved! Duh!

    Shave Of The Day:
Razor: Genco Gold Seal fresh from honing
Strop: None this time...didn't want to risk screwing things up.
Soap: Williams Mug Shaving Soap (been playing with this and really getting to like it)
Brush: Van Der Hagen (Cheap, but a-It's what I've got, b-It does the job)
    AS: None

    Blood: None.
Razor Burn: Pencil Eraser sized spot.
Lesson Learned: In the course of shaving WTG then XTG I learned one important thing. My brain is stupid! hehehe My brain says, "If that wisker in that deep pore isn't cut, press harder." My cheek says, "Don't press harder you idiot! You're taking skin!" And that's how I ended up with a pencil eraser sized spot of razor burn. For a split instant I didn't correct the lesson my brain has learned from years of cartridge razor shaves. Try a different angle, use your tongue to press out your cheek, do anything but press harder.

Thanks to all of those who shared their wisdom, honing skills, and patience in helping me get to this point.

Congratulations on what sounds like a very successful and satisfying shave! If the tongue in cheek thing doesn't work for you, another member here suggested trying the Dizzy Gillespie approach (puffing out your cheeks) works like a charm for me.

Congrats on the shave! For only a pencil size area of razor burn, I'd call that a raging success. My first razor burn looked like I got dragged across a concrete basketball court on my neck!

    Success. Congratulations.

Yes, your brain can be less intelligent that it was intended to be.

I saw a comedian not too long ago, who made this point "My brain has been trying to get me into situations, when "other parts" of my body are clearly saying NO."

Fill in the blanks. Not trying to be derogatory here, just pointing out that it's usually a good idea to listen to your body.

    Congrats on the excellent shave!

Thanks for the congrats guys. I pulled down shave #2 with a run of 40 laps on the strop last night (first time stropping a truly sharp blade). Got ZERO razor burn and no discomfort after the shave.

THEN I woke up this morning:
The whole reason I got into straights was because my neck looks like I got attacked by a colony of fire ants, and then to get them off I had to use a butane torch. (no b-ball court look though) This morning there were no red patches on my neck. Within two shaves they're gone. I still have some red bumps from good old Mr. Schick Hydro (who did a much better job than Mr. Mach 3) but I'm confident those will go away with a little more time. But I posted this up to say: this is why I came, and I'm seeing improvement right away.

It's a little hard to believe, but I'm stoked to shave again tonight!

    Congrats, that is just great.
You have come a long way, done your homework, and now you reap the benefits
And the best part? It gets even better. Oh yes, so much better
