Default First straight shave= success and failure

Hello again everyone my new straight came in today and first thing I did was run home talks a nice hot shower and prep my beard. Lathered up my face best I could and went to work. It went so well on my cheeks I decided to try the upped part of my chin. All good so I tried my neck and upper lip. Everything went really well I only had a tiny Nick on my chin and an even smaller one on my ear. It was as close to bbs as I've ever gotten. Well I'm my infanate wisdom I decided I'd try a secound pass also wtg. Well bad idea once again I did all but the curve of my jawbut this time I ended up with 6-7 small nicks and one decent one with the addition of a bit of razor burn. All in all I'm glad I decided I'd try and thank you all for your help. One last bit is do you have any suggestions of a good after shave I've been using stenson for the last year and straight rubbing alchohol between 6th grade and then. I like the nice masculin smell of stenson but doesn't seem to do much for razor burn or anything except smell good. Any tips for a decent afterhave the smell along the same lines.

    Default Well done, Pup

    Nice work!

Just that you had the confidence for the 2nd pass is a good sign - something's going right. 'Wish my first was that good - there's a reason I'm called pinklather.

You're on your way. You'll find lots of excellent help here, and great attitudes. You're already close to the best shaves of your life.

Keep posting, keep learning, have fun.

Best thing for small nicks and razor burn is an alum block. After you rinse the soap, pass the alum block over your face. It'll close the nicks, settle the razor burn down, and tighten up the skin. Most of us use one as part of our post shave regimen. Congrats on your success!

I think you are keeping a great attitude. There is always a learning curve and no one learns the straight without paying their dues (usually in blood and burns).
In regards to after shave I prefer ones with no alcohol (although I know people who like that alcohol sting). I also stick to balms as my face tends to get dry easily if use splashes. My favorite are my Truefitt and Hill balms, but they are pricey. The Real Shaving Co. is relatively inexpensive and work well. Also mama bear soaps sells some nice after shaves in a wide variety of scents.
