    Okay, again.
That description is only in regard to the use of straight razors by BARBERS on their customers. The possession and use of straight razors by INDIVIDUALS is legal throughout this country.

Funny. Considering you can go into a typical rural hardware store in Texas and buy any firearm you want and any knife you want the thought of straights being illegal would be hilarious to me.

Every thing I've been able to locate talks about barbers and cosmetologists being legally bound to use shavettes. In lots of places, replaceable blades have been barber shop standards for quite some time(mandated by law because of bloodborn pathogens i.e. HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, etc.)

I may very well be wrong but having lived deep in the heart of Texas for 4 years, I can't imagine that PRIVATE ownership of a straight razor is, or ever has been illegal in Texas. If this is indeed the case in Texas or anywhere else, the Nanny State has just plain crossed the line. I'd further venture a guess that the Texas contingent here at SRP will have less than zero misgivings about disregarding such ridiculum.

Even if it were illegal, which I'm sure it's not for all the reasons discussed here it would be an idiotic law and not worth following. My suggestion is to get a straight if you want to and forget about all this silliness.

Again, barbers in Texas can use straight razors.

Having a law degree and studying various court cases that have to do with a straight razors leads me to believe it is only illegal for cosmetologist (and sometimes Barbers depending on the state) due to health reasons. I have never heard of it being illegal to possess a straight razor for personal use in your own home. Furthermore, the only other reason a straight razor may be illegal is if you are carrying it on your person because it could be classified as a Gravity Knife. Any law making it illegal to own a straight razor for personal grooming reasons would be completely unconstitutional. This would not be a benefit to the health and welfare of society by making such a law. It would be no different from a state making it illegal to have a knife in your kitchen. If such a law does exist (which I seriously doubt), then it should be challenged in Federal court. Another thing I would like to add is that if it was illegal to possess a straight razor in a particular state, then the company you order your razor from should have a disclaimer letting the customer know that they cannot ship to that particular state, or that company could be held liable under interstate commerce law and sometimes under the long arm statute.

    I hope this helps.

I found an answer at Is it illegal to carry a straight razor in texas? - Yahoo! Answers

Scroll down a little to "The Best Answer"

Apparently a straight razor falls under the same definition as a knife, and any knife with a "blade" that measures more than 5 1/2 inches is illegal... in some places. I don't know of too many straights that have a "blade" that is >=5.5 inches... not counting tang/tail.

Silly thought this thread. Now if I wanted to make something illegal in Texas it would be "big hair" on women.
