Thread: french tip for second straight

I have been straight shaving for a few months now and feel the need to start looking for an additional razor for when I send mine for a re honing. since I still keep a trimmed beard I would like to find a French tip for shaping. ideally a wedge to try a different grind due to the fact I have a full hollow now. that type of blade doesn't seem to common unless im going full custom and due to my financial situation I cant afford anything like that..
is there a any companies that make a French point wedge for a decent price?

There aren't very many companies making them period these days since there just aren't that many companies making razors. I think TI has made some but razors like that would not be their bargain styles. You would be better looking for vintage if that is what you want for the best selection.

Like TBS said, TI is the only one I know of although you could check Revisor's website for NOS vintage. The TI is the second edition of the Silverwing with French point and ram's horn scales. A beautiful razor and reasonably priced considering what it is. North of $300 last time I looked but mine was worth it.

that is quite exspensive for where i am at right now. seeing as i dont even know if i will like it. thoughts on having a lower cost/vintage wedge made into a french tip/point? possible im sure but worth the money spent to have someone do it?

They come up vintage now and again. They look cool and shave well once you have the technique but they do require a bit more attention ... like a spike point ... to avoid nicks and cuts.

About a year ago I found a Wacker 1/4 grind french point (with horn scales) at this site. I checked it and they don't have it there now, but if you contact the owner maybe you could ask for a special order. That razor is my favorite!

Why don't you try a Wapi? They do have French points, and they're good, inexpensive razors. They are very minimally hollowed out, so they shave like wedges.



The scales make them unbalanced, but even with a rescale they're still cheap.

Don't be too discouraged iff you don't find a French point right away. I have a goatee and some sideburns with some intricate work if i feel up to it, and after some practice I can maintain the lines just as well with any of my razors. In fact I only have one French point and I aquired that by accident because it was the cheapest wedge I could find. If your current razor is a round point you might try a spike point as a sort of middle ground if you can't aquire a French.
