    Default My first razor

Well my fellow rookies I purchased my first razor this evening. I purchased a Broadway Cutlery Germany 5/8 Hollow Square in the SRP classified section. The price was right and the reputation of the sellers on this board was to good to pass up. I followed the advise of the veterans on this board and chose not to invest to much cash on my first razor. Like any new hobby or lifestyle you never know if it's for you until you try. After I purchase a strop I will be on my way to the Brotherhood Of The Straight Razor Shave.

That looks like a nice blade.

Be extra careful with the square point.

    Default Well done, Caddy

I overspent for lousy results. You had the smarts to buy well. You'll be alot better off.

Enjoy that first shave, and it'll flood your head with questions. This is the place for all of them. I think you're gonna enjoy this alot.

You made a smart choice on your first blade.

Of course I have to ask, did you get a strop yet or brush and soap? I've seen couple posts recently by beginners who think they can use a straight without stropping it, which is wrong.

Congradulations on your first razor. If I may, please let me give you a little advice on your razor.

+1 to cpcohen1945's comment. Make sure to take it easy and slow with that square point. I now have several square points that I love to shave with but I never tried one until I got used to several round points. Round points are more foregiving for a beginner in case you accidentally put a little too much pressure toward the end of the blade. By any means, please don't let us discourage you because I'm sure there are plenty of beginners who never had any trouble starting with a square point. Just take it slow and easy because we want to see your first experience go as well as possible. Make sure to follow the advice in the Beginners section, http://straightrazorpalace.com/begin...ead-first.html . Especially, the part about not attempting an entire shave and doing only a little section of your face on your first few times.

Good luck, please keep us posted and don't hesitate to ask for any advice. I don't think you will find anyone in SRP who thinks any question to be a stupid one because we all had to start somewhere.

Gentleman thanks for the encouragement and yes I definitely will take it slow with the square point. I have been pondering the use of a straight razor for about a year now and have been lurking on this site for about three months. I have taken in to consideration all the wonderful information provided by you members. Then only thing I need to purchase is a decent strop. I have been shaving with a safety razor for about 8 years and have a very nice brush and scuttle. Once again thank you for the support and I will keep you posted when the first shave happens.
