Thread: Blade composition questions

I hate that I have found a new outlet to get personal recommendations, but I guess that what the internets is for.

I have been looking around, and had a question about blades that are a composite of carbon steel and silver. Is there any merit to these blades, or should I just stick with the carbon steel.

Are you sure that this blade actually has silver in it? There is something called "silver steel" that doesn't usually actually have silver in it.

There were some older models (1800s) that I think had silver in the alloy but the performance wasn't that good and the concept was dropped. Generally silver is best left for ornamental use... it's generally not used for making quality cutting instruments no more than you'd want a knife made of gold.

There was a time I guess way back in the early 1800s or maybe earlier when the original formula for silver steel supposedly had some silver in it but any razor you are likely to find even from the 1800s won't have it. It's still carbon steel anyway. I would stick to the known steels .
