    Default Beginner to straight shaving

    Hello everyone,

I have made my mind up to start shaving with a straight.I have been shaving with a DE's for some time now and I think this is the natural progression.I am a fanatic when it comes to wet shaving and I have lots and lots of brushes and soaps already.I have purchased but not received yet a Dovo Red Bismark 6/8 new from SRD and a Filarmonica Doble Temple 6/8 off ebay, will have to get it honed but I wanted one new and one vintage straight to get started.I also purchased a cheap strop to get started with.
I can hardly wait to for that first shave.

    Happy Shaving

Sounds like you've already got yourself squared away then. You'll find that using a cut-throat will take a little time to get the technique down, so be patient and don't expect to be able to get it right straight away.

well if going from DE's to a straight is the natural progression I must be unnatural because I did it backwards. I started with straights about ten years ago and just started useing DE's this year. but I'm left handed so I do everything backwards anyway. anyway, welcome to straight razors and hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

I plan on only shaving my cheeks with the straight until I get the technique down.

A wise decision. You'll be way ahead of the game.

    Default Welcome & Good Luck!

Like you, I started with DE's and have moved to straights. It is a natural progression. Three months into the process, I still use my DE to do finishing touches on my daily shave. Good things come to those who wait and work on their technique. All the best.

And you'll also be really flexible after all that twisting around and looking down...
