Default Easter NC, need some face time with some one.

    Hi all,

Well I have been attempting to straight shave for the past two to three weeks. I enjoy it despite still figuring it out. I have hit a plateau so to say. I am not improving with each shave or at all for that matter now.

Was wondering if there is any one in the eastern North Carolina area that can possibly meet me so I can get some physical help. I am all for learning things on my own, but some things need actual input from others in person. Im in Elizabeth city, I dont mind driving an hour or so to meet up.

    Thanks

    Brian

Well I am in Jacksonville but that's pushing 3 hours.
I am also a rookie, but aside from a couple of spots on my jaw line and the fact that much of the hair on my neck grows left to right making ATG tricky I have been getting great shaves for the most part.

Not sure that I'll be in you area any time soon but if you happen to be down here drop me PM we could compare notes.

Perhaps if we come across a few more folks in Eastern NC a meet up at some point might be in order.

There is usually THE meet-up in NC every year. If you think you have some questions, or would like to discuss things over the phone I would be available several evenings to do so. Or we could meet in the SRP chat room.

When is the meet up and where usually? That would be awesome to go to. Calling or chat would work for the time being. Just need to figure out why I get so much irritation and such a poor shave. I get the main stuff cut down, but my shave doesn't last more than a few hours before its noticeable again. And I have a lot of left over short whiskers after shaving.

Default Can't get more eastern nc than E. City!

    Hi,
Cary NC here. Irritation or short results can be a dull razor or bad technique hard to say. I've been at it about five years and there is a sharp learning curve (pun intended) at first that seemingly disappeared for me after some initial attempts. Little or no pressure is key to a comfortable shave. Remember, many folks before you were able to make it work. It just takes some time, practice, and prep to get it done. Again, a sharp razor makes the difference. I see AF Davis responded, he helped me early on with a courtesy which included sharpening a few razors and critiqueing my efforts.
BTW. One pass can give pretty good results if doen properly.

I spend a lot of time around New Bern, but again, as Jacksonville, not very close.

    Good luck and perservere.

Cary isnt too bad, I have friends in Raleigh I visit often. Maybe one time I could get some input from you in person.

I am just going to keep at it, I know it will get much better the more I keep shaving. Not discouraged, just a little impatient.

Give me a 'heads up' next time you make it to the capital city. I certainly don't mind offering some help. I don't profess to be an expert, but I do hone my razors and I use one on a daily basis. Again, patience, prep, and a sharp razor will provide good results. I did see a post some time back about different beard growth patterns. The suggestion was to use a cotton ball and drag it across the beard at different angles. The direction of the cotton remaing on the beard was a good indicator of the direction of the growth. It was instructive for me.
