    Default First Shave with Shavette

Today my Dovo Shavette came in the mail so I got down to business with it and gave myself a shave! Figured id only do my cheek and chin strap but i ended up doing everything LOL. Anyways the shave turned out pretty good. Deff not a BBS shave but im still impressed on how it turned out. Those DE blades sure are sharp! I only cut myself a few times but nothing too serious...but at one point my whole face did feel like it was on fire.

Anyways what is the proper way to store my Shavette? Should I leave the blade I shaved with inside the blade holder or remove it?? Do I need to dry it out 100% or will just giving it a few shakes to do the trick??

    Thanks

Leave the blade in the holder, but make sure you dry it off gently using a stropping motion, and then store it in a dry place.

Welcome to SRP. I'm new, too. I started with a shavette and continue to use it along with my SR. Having read a lot about shavettes, I opted for the green holder designed for holding single, ridged back, Personna blades. These are supposed to be firmer and a bit easier to use. I find my first several shaves with fresh blade are pretty rough, then things seem to settle in. I've managed to go WTG and ATG but not XTG. After 8 weeks I still finish up with my DE. I'm following Lynn's advice to break into this slowly.

    Remember, no pressure.
    Good luck.

I'm always thinking about buying one of those things. Can anyone give me a comparson between shaving with a Shavette and a real SR? How often do you change the blade?

Shaving with a shavette is somewhat equal to using the Safety Razor with a double blade. I find the disposables harsh and difficult to keep from cutting yourself.

The Regular straight is really much much better. Once you get over the learning curve, you'll be glad you are using a regular straight razor.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I'm way past the learning curve on the STR8, but I've never shaved with a Shavette. Just curious.

I'm just getting into straight razor shaving, I bought myself the shavette a month or so ago to get a feel for holding and working with a straight. I had one or two pretty good shaves with it, but it seems like I'm getting alot of irritation. a couple questions.. its probably my angle and I feel like I might be using too much pressure, correct? someone told me that I should replace the blade after every shave, true? but even when I use a brand new 3 blade disposable I get irritation.. I dont know it's just a lil confusing for me.
