Thread: ClassicShaving wool fat shave soap

I've had a similar experience with this soap - the lather I get out of it tends to be rather thin and I have to mix it with something otherwise the lather tends to "collapse" after a short while on my face. This of course could be due to technique and water/soap ratios, but I've tried it out with different brushes and have always had a similar result.

I ended up grating a small amount of the soap and blended that with some proraso and that works better. This, however, seems to defeat the purpose of the product... so to sum up, I get better results with other, less expensive products...

I believe our observations come to the same conclusions. I've been cruising around SRP site. What I can find here and at one other site suggest one of the oils used in the making of the soap is the reason the lather collapses so rapidly on the face. I'm no chemist but over and over I see knowledgeable straight razor shavers asking, "what's in the soap?" When (saphonated olive oil or some such) shows up the conclusion is always the same. This soap won't lather well or the lather won't last. It seems Mitchell Wool Fat ( being new I've never tried this soap) is the standard. At any rate, I know my observation is correct and not a result of technique. As I said earlier, I won't discard the soap, I'll just use it at night when I have lots of time to keep re-lathering. I probably won't but more. I do intend to purchase MWF and give it a go. Thanks for your response. For me, this issue is now at rest.
