Default Three months of Straight Shaving

    Well, almost three months.

Took a nice hot shower today, got out my Conk apothecary mug and GN silver-tip brush, ran the hot water in the sink over/in them. Took the Proraso soap and ran the brush round and round until it was nice and loaded up. Then added a dime of Proraso cream to the mug. Added about 5 drops of glycerin and whipped up a nice thick Proraso uber lather. Lathered up my face and then took my Dovo to the strop. Soaked a face cloth nice and hot in the water, and applied it to my face for a couple minutes. Then wiped the lather off. Now I applied some Proraso pre/post cream to my beard massaging it in good. To this applied uber lather brushing it into the beard really well. Started shaving with the Dovo. It started pulling a bit, and got a couple nicks. I think it is time for the Dovo to get a light honing. I took down my other razor, and Ahhh, reminds me of why I don't only have one razor, this one is really sharp and smooth. Did three passes somewhat with the grain, I did some baby steps in using my left hand even.
Washed up the lather, stropped and put up the razors, then splashed on some Proraso after shave, and rubbed in some Proraso pre/post shave cream over that. Hit that with a towel and splashed some Pinaud after shave over that. Then my Old spice deoderant, and Pinaud powder everywhere.

Life is good. Whats the rush?

Default 'Very close to the same learning time.

I started late June. It still takes me an hour, unless I rush. Rushed, with a particular blade, well prepped, about 20 min. It's not efficient, the learning curve is long, but there's little as satisfying as a fine shave.

'Grat's Jeff. Maybe in a few yrs we'll know what we're doing, but in the mean time - the best shaves I've had & it's just a hoot to learn.

Sounds good to me, Jeff. I am pretty new to this as well. You have given me some good tips on some threads I have posted; thanks on that. Seems like you have a really good handle on everything. I am a little jealous of your post shave routine... I only have some really old Gillette balm... In the department of looking for some new stuff.

Always enjoy your posts / threads.

sounds good. no need to rush at all. I love to drink my coffee while I shave in the morning. My best shaves though are on the weekend. I love the relaxation time.

    good for us.

    Hi,

I've been using a straight since January of this year and I'm really liking it too. Once you get your process down it just moves along. I think sometimes how I never used any aftershave or post face treatment and now use both after each shave. Since starting this process I don't get any shave bumps or related pimple like bumps. I wish I learned this 20 years ago.

    Congratulations on 3 months!!
I started at the end of June too but only used my new Dovo Best Quality 2 or 3 times before i went away for 3 weeks. And Since the beginning of August I haven't used anything else except straights and I'm a bit more afraid of my DE now than straights because the DE gave me worse cuts than the straights.
