MY father taught me to let my whiskers grow over a weekend every once in a while to give my skin a break. I would say once every two-three months I don't shave over the weekend. When I do this, I always used a fresh blade when I used the multi-blade and now always use this particular time to Cr0x the edge like Lynn said. I also make sure I prep my face properly with a hot water shower and let some hair conditioner sit on my whiskers for a few minutes after washing my face.
When I do this, I get a great shave.

i love shaving a few days growth off.. i always end up with a better shave.. like people have said.. it's important to really hydrate your beard.. i always lather up and massage the lather in with my fingers..

of course it's not an issue with a straight.. but with a DE or even when i used to use a cartridge.. clogging is and was a problem.. just rinse often and use shorter strokes.
