I have found that if I get cut while shaving WTG, it reopens no matter how careful I am the next shave, if I try to go over it WTG. What works for me is only shaving XTG in that area until it heals; the blade does not snag the cut edges that way. Yesterday I got in an early morning rush to shave in 5 minutes and actually nicked the underside of my nose! Did not even notice it until evening. And I have a mustache. Can't imagine how the blade got to my nose, since I don't shave under it. Focus, focus, or pay the price!

No matter how careful I am, I always open a fresh cut if I try to shave over it too soon. What I do is put my finger on the cut before I lather up to keep the wound bare. (If I can't see it, I'm bound to shave over it). Then I avoid it like the plague. If I reopen it, it's a fresh cut again and I have to start all over.

I shave over the cut spot very carefully, and make sure that I shave in a direction that goes smoothly over the cut rather than against the angle of the cut. In other words, I shave over the cut in the direction that is opposite the direction I was going when I cut myself.

I've finally gotten to the point where I only cut myself on the back of my head if I'm tryng to rush things. What I do is avoid the area altogether for a few days, then for a few days after that, I only go WTG. after that, I'm pretty much all healed up and can start the whole process again the next shave.

I nicked a mole a couple of times. I'm on warfarin and bled like a stuck hog. Now I just lather around the mole so I see it when I'm shaving. The rest of the scrapes and dings I can shave over without much of a problem.

I've gotten now to the point that I was with the DE. I shave around the mole, then gently over and no nicks. It takes some finess and a light touch to shave a mole without cutting it. Practice makes perfect!

Right when I started straights, I almost removed one cleaving it about halfway through. Ahhh!

    Default "NewSkin"

"NewSkin Liquid Band-aid" works on small cuts. It's
antiseptic, it works sorta like superglue, and it leaves
a protective "cover" on the wound. But....

It also stings like crazy when applied, and I wouldn't
recommend it for any "large" wound.

Used liquid band-aid once, got infected. Regular old dressings for me!!!

    Default NewSkin addendum

I should have specified that NewSkin is "mildly"
antiseptic. Any wound has to be clean before applying
any sort of dressing, or there is a risk of infection.
That would be especially true if the wound is "sealed",
as it would be with NewSkin.

When I worked in the emergency room, the standard
procedure for treating an incision (like a razor cut) was
to irrigate the wound with a solution of Betadine, dry it
with sterile 4x4's, then butterfly bandage/sutures,
and cover with a sterile dressing.

    That's the "heavy-duty" version...

A possible indication of how "bad" the cut is, is how
much it is bleeding. If the bleeding is controlled by
direct pressure, more or less right away, then Lynn's
suggested application of a triple-antibiotic ointment
is probably enough. If there is prolonged bleeding,
I'd certainly give serious consideration to a trip to
the ER or your own MD.
