    Default Dad's Night, BBS obsession

Tonight was "Dad's Night" at my daughter's high school.
One of the "things" is that Dad is supposed to waltz with
his daughter. My wife made our daughter a beautiful new
dress, we'd been practicing our dance moves, and Dad
was supposed to be looking his best...which, of course,
    included a perfect shave.

Well, truth to tell, the sought-after BBS shave simply
eluded me....I just didn't get there.

I shaved in the usual way, but I didn't like the result.
So, I shaved again. I still didn't like it. And again,
    and again....

After 4 shaves, I quit. I quit because it was starting to
hurt, and there was no real improvement. "If it hurts
to do that, then don't do that!"

I dunno what the problem was, but it was more than
likely my stropping/shaving technique, and the "need"
    to get a "perfect" shave.

I'm not looking for advise. I just want to say, that in
my experience, sometimes it just doesn't happen, and
if you push too hard, you're gonna hurt yourself.

    Tomorrow is another day....

    Cheers,
    Paul

there is nothing wrong with DFS.. (damn fine shave)

it may not be bbs.. but you have to remember.. the whole crew of srp isn't going to be at your daughter's event.. only she is.. and you could show up with 9 days stubble and still make her proud..

you are after all.. her dad

    Default Absolutely right!

Thanks for that. You are absolutely right about "Dad".

I was just hoping to remind a newbie that "perfect"
is only a goal, which is not always obtainable...especially
when one first begins the journey.

BTW...."Dad's Night", and the waltz, went very well!
Even if the shave wasn't perfect.

    Thanks again

    Paul

I've been at this art for 2 years now, and I dont always get BBS. I still get at least DFS though and pride myself at being able to use these tools and maintain them adequately myself in order to do so. I always get an excellent shave, BBS or not, and consider myself extremely lucky and fortunate in having discovered this lost art; and above all such a great network of mentors and fellow hobbyists.

And if I were a child again, just to have my father spend time with me would have been great. Looking back he was and still is always too busy.

    Default Dad's Night . . .

    Hello, PaulKidd:

Forget Baby Bottom Smooth for now. A good shave is all you need. Instead, spend the time on honing your skill in making luxurious lather, stropping and shaving with the straight razor. Your daughter will love you no matter how smooth your face.

Putting your arms around your daughter is worth an infinite number of BBS's.

    Regards,
    Obie

I've definately been there. Every shave is different, just like every game of golf. There are so many factors involved with this that you can't claim success or failure on any one shave. At least I don't.

But Obie is right - as long as you can dance with your daughter, I think all is right in the world.
