    Default Feather Straight Razor

After reading some of the previous posts, I decided to post my humble opinion of the feather straight razor.

I reviewed probably every post on this site before I purchased this razor. These posts lead me to believe that all this razor would do is cut my face to shreds and leave a tremendous amount of razor burn. The main two reasons that I purchased this razor where for travel purposes and the challenge that I was lead to believe this razor would provide.

After using this razor I have found at least in my humble opinion that this razor is not near as bad as it has been made out to be. Now I will also say this, I am using the pro guard blades and do not plan on using any other blades.

I currently own three traditional straight razors varying in size from a 7/8 full wedge to a 5/8 full hollow. As far the weight of the feather is concerned, I find it to be a lot lighter than my 7/8 full wedge, and a little heavier than my 5/8 full hollow.

I am not trying to say that the feather should be used to replace a traditional straight. All that I am saying, is that a beginner may want to consider this a step leading to shaving with a traditional straight. Lets me honest, it seems to me that the biggest question on this site for beginners is if the razor is truly shave ready. At least with this razor you know you are getting a shave ready blade from the beginning, and if you damage the blade you can throw it away, and start with a new one. I also ruined my first strop the first time that I used it, this razor takes the learning curve out of the equation, and leaves the person focusing on the shave only.

Once again, this is my humble opinion. I do not ever plan on replacing my traditional straights with the feather, but I find the feather a very pleasant razor that will stay in my rotation.

My experience with the Feather has been good. For the reasons you pointed out, I started out with a Feather. It delivers a great shave and is pretty much trouble free. That said, I don't like using it as much as I like my conventional straights.

One observation for you.... the Proguards are my least favorite Feather blade. It's nowhere near as smooth as an unguarded blade in my opinion. The ProSuper is my favorite by far. Give them a try and I'll bet that another myth will bite the dust.

I briefly tried a traditional straight, and promptly ruined the edge, so I tried a Feather AC next. I've tried the Pro and Super Pro blades, and I prefer the Super Pros. I'm getting fantastic shaves, though my previous standard was a GEM G-Bar.

i also started wtih the ac and love it.. i finally settled on the light blades and feel that they give the most smooth shave.. at no point do i have any plans of abandoning the ac for a "real straight"
