Question Few questions from a beginner!

Hey everyone, I nervous lately because I'm going to buy my first razor tomorrow. I have few questions I'm wondering about before I start my first shave. I'm a girl

    1. How does it naturally feels after a shave(leg)? (tingle, itchy, nothingetc)

    2. When the hair finally grows out to the length it originally was, will it be coarse (or just when it's growing out the stubble) ?

3.What would you reccommend: Veet or Nair or _______moisturizure ?

4.Before I start shaving, should I let some cold air into the bathroom so my pores will close and not irritate that much while shaving?

5.If I shave the night before Monday (school), will the hair be visible again the next day?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to SRP!

My first question would be; what sort of razor are you looking at and what store/site are you looking to purchase from?

I'm not buying one atm. My aunt is possibly taking me to Wal-Mart or a store in the mall (sorry, I'm not experience when it comes to shopping). Umm..I'm not familiar with the sort of razor but one with possibly a 3 blade? A good quality one. Sorry if I'm not making any sense. I'm going to ask my aunt tomorrow about razors. She probably know about it more than me.

Welcome to SRP HappyKitty, I guess I would have to have a few questions answered by yourself before I can answer some of yours.

    1) What kind of razor are you looking to buy, Different razors can give you different results. Are you buying a disposable like a Bic, A cartridge razor like the Venus? or are you looking to go razorless with the VEET, Nair route. Most of the ladies here use straight razors or Double Edge razors.

But to answer some of your questions

    1. You shouldn't feel anything after you shave, If this is actually your first ever shave you may feel some sort of burning itching from using a bad angle or too much pressure. This is called razor burn and a good moisturizer with Aloe will help sooth it.

    2. You're hair should stay the same size/ courseness. This being said as you mature this may change either one way or the other, but it shouldn't change that much.

    3. Personally I would recommend a young lady to start out with a Double edge safety razor and some sample blades. but really the choice it up to you.

4.No you actually want to pores/follicles to be open, A hot shower or bath before you shave will actually make things much smoother. A cool water rinse followed by a moisturizer will finish things off for you. A good soap/cream will also help instead of the canned foam or gels

    5. It depends on how fast your hair grows. I can usually go afew days before it get's noticable. If you are just starting out I would suggest waiting at leat 2-3 days between shaves to get your legs and yourself used to this whole new world.

Please feel free to contact me via pm if you need more details.

I don't know if you expected responses from the girls, but you did say "Hello everyone", so here goes! I've made the assumption you're asking about straights, but a DE is a great alternative.

Absolutely no irritation & completely comfortable. Straights give the least aggressive shave out there when mastered

It's exactly the same whatever method you use to shave. The only difference you may find is that it feels softer, due to the angle the hair is cut at.

Sorry, this one I can't help with, but my wife uses various body butters from the body shop & likes them.

Probably not. You'll get more immediate results with cool water. It may be down to experimentation to some extent whether you use hot or cold. Personally, I'm hot water all the way, whatever the weather.
Some of the chaps are enjoying cold water shaves, so search out those threads & see what they thought.

That would depend on how close you shaved & the natural colour. It doesn't seem likely though.

Just caught up & read that you'll be using a multi blade. I guess some of the above may be of use. Get a DE though!

I googled images to see what kind of razor is what, and I'm thinking about getting the cartridge razor like the Venus. I want a good quality (not a cheap) razor that doesn't leave missed hair here and there, and easy to use.

We're glad to help, but SRP has a special forum devoted to women and their specific concerns with shaving. I would suggest you post your question in that area where more women are likely to see it and be able to offer you advice more directly suited to a young woman's needs.

    All the best!

+1 on Carrie's and LawsonStone's advice. Welcome to SRP and hope you find what works best for you. We all had to start somewhere, and if this is the place where you start, then you can't go wrong. Best of luck to you!
