    Default second straight shave

I just finished my second try with a straight...

I may be going at this too slow. do feel a bit a bit embarrassed to say this is my only second one. I decided it was time to give it another try with one of my Robeson Shuredge.

I seem to improved a lot and had much success this time.Pre prep made a big difference. My lather was perfect no drying out, enough for several passes WTG. I took my time to use proper technique and angle. Wow what a difference! No tugging or such smooth cutting and it felt fantastic. I shaved booth sides of the cheeks and chin with no problems I did have a few small weepers but nothing bad. I didn't try my upper lip this time I will leave that for another day.

I feel I am finally getting this and know my next one will be even better.

Right on, RKP! I love hearing these success stories.

Don't be afraid to try the coup de maitre, when you're ready of course. It looks intimidating in the shaving vids, but it's not that difficult. The key is smooth movement; you're more likely to cut yourself with pausing, hesitant strokes.

    Take care,

    Ryan

Yep, throw the clock away. I think it took me an hour to do my first WTG pass lol. These days, my WTG pass is done in about 3 minutes. You'll naturally get faster as you get more comfortable with your technique and realizing that you aren't going to roll your head down the hallway.

Good job...just remember to never loose the concentration...performed a bit of surgery the other night .... after I had finished ... so sad.... the only good thing, the sharper the blade, the finer the laceration....

Let me also just encourage you to go slow and don't worry if your results right now are not all you hoped, or even downright disappointing.

This is a new skill. I compare it to learning to put contact lenses in one's eye. We have so many natural defenses to prevent things from getting in our eyes that we have to overcome.

Likewise, we naturally protect our faces from sharp pointy things. We flinch and worry, plus our hands and wrists are not accustomed to some of these movements. The first time I put the straight in my LEFT hand to shave my left cheek, I actually shook a little from worry. But it went okay.

The main thing is to get the stroke and (lack of) pressure right. You can do more adjusting your angle than you can applying more pressure! Angle is what cuts, which I'm finally figuring out. It's so easy to let the blade get too steep on your face, so you're just scraping along.

Hang in there. Just concentrate on one good cutting stroke at a time. Smooth shaves will come.
