    Default 3rd shave

Third shave with my Dovo BQ this morning, finished up with my DE(Dual Edge). Got most the way through with the straight.

Received my Dovo Astrale today. Was not shave ready, so I did my first hone with the Norton 4/8k. It still did not pass the HHT(hanging hair test) as well as the Best Quality Dovo, but shaves my arm well. I also received my filly strap as well. Nice!

Can't wait until my beard grows back in the morning!

    Hi,

Congratulations on your Dovo. I was doing the same while transitioning to straight razor shaving, cleaning up with a another razor. I'm finally shaving all straight razor now.

It take a bit to get your technique down and a sharp razor helps.

Congratulations! The more you shave, the better your technique gets.

Don't bother with the HHT. It is not going to give you any useful information, given that a hair from your head will be different from a hair on your arm, your leg, your underarm and so forth.

Shaving with your newly honed razor is the ONLY valid test of a razor's shave readiness. So concentrate on that while learning to hone.

I don't know...I have yet to get a razor that shaved very well if it didn't pass the HHT. But I digress. IMHO, a razor that does not pass the HHT will shave alright for the WTG and XTG passes, but the ATG is excruciating. My opinion on the matter is to keep that new razor on your 4k stone until you have a better bevel set before moving on the the next stone.

I may have been holding the hair the incorrect way? It does seem to pass if I turn the hair around...

Sounds like everything is progressing fairly well!

May I suggest that for the time being you concentrate on your stropping and shaving technique? Honing can be a lot to take on when first starting out.

Neither of my razors pass the HHT, both of them will shave the tops off my arm hair though and ATG is smooth and comfortable for me. I think it would come down to beard type as well. I don't have a real coarse beard, like everything else about me I would say it is 'average'. An individual thing perhaps?!

    Best regards,
    Mick
