    Default A Revelation......Maybe?

I have been on the road most of the week, and to save time and space, instead of a straight I took an old Gillette Red Tip Superspeed. Now, I'm very used to these DE's, so it came as no surprise that with 2 passes I was pretty much BBS. No stubble to be felt anywhere. This is smoother than I try for with a straight shave. Today, I was able to get back to using a straight and with my customary 1 1/2 passes I wasn't as smooth, but was happy with the shave. Now for the interesting part! 10 hrs. later, I'm quite a bit smoother than I was at this point in time with a DE shave that started out as a closer shave! How can that be? I had read before that a straight shave lasted longer, but I honestly thought that was a little bit of hype from prejudiced straight users. Maybe not? This is the first time since I started 3 mos. ago that I had an opportunity to make this comparison. Any opinions on how this is possible?

    Thanks,

    Gerald

Could be the angle that the stubble is cut at. If the DE angle of cut leaves the hair "sharpened" it's going to feel more aggressive when it starts growing.

i know.. i always feel as if i get the same shave from both my artist club and a de.. but for some reason when i shave with the artist club.. it takes way longer before i notice any stubble.. i had just assumed the artist club was a closer shave..

Things aren't always as they appear.

I can pull out the old vintage electric razor I have somewhere and get an absolute BBS shave all over. The problem is 6 hours later there is considerable stubble. I can shave with my EJ Chatsworth DE and also get a BBS shave all over and about 18 hours later there is considerable stubble. Then I can shave with a straight and have some stubble here and there and 24 hours later I have the same stubble here and there.

Each mode cuts a little different making you think you are getting a better shave with one over the other but the feel test doesn't actually tell you which shave is closer only the way the hair is cut.
