Dovo makes a great razor, no question about it. However, as good as they are, many members including myself, have expressed the opinion that the newly manufactured blades don't hold up to the vintage ones. This is one reason that I would go with the classifieds. Many will come pre-honed and have been broken in for you. Whatever you decide, good luck and welcome!

Hey July10, I sent you a PM. Depending on how 'Southern CA' you are, you might want to come up to the Fresno area in early August for our get together. If you haven't found the razor of your dreams by then, we'll hunt you down a couple good examples and show you how to hone them up for a shave.

There ae actually a few razors up in the classifieds, shave ready for 30 and 25$, and they'll shave you just as well as the Dovo, even if they aren't quite so "new" and "shiny"

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

Just go to u=tube and all kinds of guys shaving with straights will pop up and just watch and you will get an idea what the art is all about and welcome to SRP.

    Default member pm's

Several people have tried to PM me and I appreciate it. My computer has some kind of block against pop ups so I can't read any pm's. Is there another way on this site to access pm's that have been sent?

if you're still looking for good razors and really good starter strops, head on over to RupRazor - Home. the filly strop is what i use and its perfect for $20 (shipping included in the $20).

Here is my first shaving video, maybe it'll help.

So, did you go to classicshaving?

If I do an hour drive I'll definitely buy the stuff there since you can see it in person (not that you can tell anything meaningless from that since you have no experience whatsoever, but you can hold it in your hand see how it feels and looks).
Of course, you can get better razors/deals, but I don't think it's terribly important, do what you're comfortable with.

You should not have to worry about getting a "new"razor . Before I found this site I bought a basic Dovo that was supposedly shave ready. After letting Lynn (founder of this site) at it, I finally know what shave ready is. I also bought a razor from the classifieds and it came shave ready and disinfected. Don't worry about it. The members here take really good care of us newbies. Don't be afraid to ask. There are no silly questions.

Have fun and welcome aboard !
