Default A suggestion for new and old

I had an idea a couple weeks ago. After dinging my razor on the faucet and realizing how much water I was wasting I went to Target and bought a large soft plastic bowl to use as a basin. Basically what I've been doing is filling it up with hot water and using that water for shaving and rinsing the blade. The benefits are that it saves on utilities (and water if you're eco-consious), opens up the sink for someone else to use, and since the plastic is soft, accidentally hitting it when rinsing doesn't nick the razor. My bowl only cost 1.95 in the kitchen section.

Smart. You can also put your lather mug in the bowl to make your own scuttle to keep your lather warm.

The edge of a razor is so fragile that hitting it even on a rubber basin will likely do damage.

    Good thought thou!!

Actually if you don't want to rinse the blade, just keep a hand towel by you and wipe the blade as you go. Then you can rinse your face and your blade at the end of your shave.

    Have fun,

Another technique that might work for you is using a wet sponge to wipe the razor off when you need to. Check out this video of a member using this technique. This is where I learned of it. The other suggestions posted are good as well.

Well, so far it hasn't been an issue. I don't really like using a towel, which is why I do it like this.

I have been rinsing the blade under a running faucet for years, no problems here, and I don't consider water used for rinsing as wasted.

It is when you think about how much per shave you're saving by simply rinsing with a bowl (about a half gallon per shave) instead of running your faucet (at least a couple gallons)

I always just fill the basin in the vanity and leave the water off while I shave. I dip and swirl the blade to clean it off.

I guess the plastic bowl might protect the blade a bit better, but I have yet to ruin one in the sink.
