    Smile The Maaan shelf......

Ok so I just thought I would share this inspiring wee tid bit with ya'll for motivation purposes. In a nut shell,I am building my own shaving shelf. It's about 30 1/2 inches long and when finished I'll have a hanger** for my brush and plenty of space for razors, mug and aftershaves. This was born out of a need for space and low budget. Although it wasn't as cheap as originally thought. But whatever.....the point is when done It will be able to be hung with picture hangers and will move with me where ever I go. It's a nice piece of maple and some ornamental wood pieces glued and nailed together and I'm staining it a nice mahogany and finishing it with tung oil. Now I could polycoat it,but I am perfectly ok with reapplying the oil every so often.I want it to take the wear and dings and develop character. It will hopefully look like something out of the 1800's when finished. I don't have a camera, but when finished I will try to post some pics. I think everyone needs a little shrine for their shaving ritual....it's the man thing to do. So shortly before writing this. I had just applied some clubman aftershave on mine self and sanded and put on another coat of stain (on the wood that is) heh heh .......well....lemme tell ya'll...there is nothing quite like the smell of fresh wood stain and aftershave to get the ol testosterone goin. I've got some lime sec and lilac vegetal comin in the mail and when finished it will look grand with the ol apothecary mug up there and all it's friends haha . I'm gonna try and find a long mirror as well to hang behind it all . God I want to shave right this minute...alas, no whiskers ... !!! In any event if you have any woodskill in you at all,you should give this a try as it is an excellent motivator for wetshaving. Ladies can do this too. Maybe instead of the man shelf,we'll call it the shave mantle . Mind you ,I am doing this in my little tiny apartment kitchen as I have not a workshop in which to tinker . This is gettin obsessive this here shaving thing . Well......guilty as charged . ( ** I couldn't afford a hanger so I put a screw eyelet in the end of my brush ,and I hang it on a hook on my old shower caddy . I Love it and this is what started this whole thing in the first place haha ! I have a Col. Conk long wood handle badger brush(it doesn't have a flat end on it) any way take care and have a great shave ya'll !!

I like the name "Man Shelf". Here it's known as the "Shave Den".

    Check it out.

I don't think you can really go wrong with a connon or sony entry level point and clicky, or even a panasonic.
