Default First week of straight shaving

So I went with the standard-issue Dovo 5/8 that you all reccommend for newbs, strop from srp, been alternating between my old tweezerman and a simpson beufort to see which I like better, col. conk bay rum soap, and c.o. bigelow bay rum balm. Gotta say, it's not as hard as the intro how-to stuff makes it out to be. Shaved my whole face the first try with only one cut, and subsequently every other day for the past week with no cuts and beautiful results. Only problem I'm having is that I can't seem to get quite as close as I'd like right under my jaw line and I find the angles for across the grain to be pretty tricky. It's loads of fun, though. Takes me a while so I don't have time to do it in the mornings but I do it right before bed and my beard's not thick enough to need to be shaved again in that short amount of time. I'm surpised at how much better it is than the ol' mach 3.

Sounds like you're on the right track...keep up the good work. I wouldn't worry about areas that aren't as close as you like. After a couple months, they'll take care of themselves.

Sounding good The shaves do get faster as you get used to the angles and such so don't worry about how much time it takes now

Watch as many videos and see what angles others are using in the areas your having trouble with, you will eventually find one that works for your way of shaving. If you haven't noticed there isn't only one way to shave and we all alter what we see to fit our own way of doing it

Keep up the good work and keep having fun at it

Sounds good! If you keep with it, you'll be an old pro in no time.

Remember too with angles, there is often more then one way to skin a cat. Find some suggestions, do some research, CAREFUL experimentation, and go with what works! +1 to the Chef!

I think another SR monster is alive!

Good to hear this from a new straight edge user, i will be receiving my straight edge razor within the next week and will be embarking on the similar journey. It is very encouraging to hear this! Good luck to you.

Sounds like you are doing well! I'm only a half dozen shaves in myself, but I find focusing on my technique really helps and each shave is an improvement on the last.
