Default I was ready to quit

Today was my 31st shave until this morning my shaving experience has been less than plesant to say the least. I have experienced nicks cuts pain at every stroke, the worst day was when doing the patch under my nose and nicked myself and then jumped slicing through half of my nostril, blood was everwhere. I had been using an AOS razor and a little 2 in DOVO strop. Well the DOVO razor I ordered came in as did the 3in Premium III Buffalo strop from SRD. I stropped the razor preped my face as normal and today the planets must have been aligned and the Angels singing praise to the Lord, because today I experienced shaving Nirvana it was pure heaven no pulling, nicks or gushing blood. The razor glided across my face so smothly I was amazed. I did half my face and neck then got bold and got out my first razor the AOS stropped it with that huge strop and lathered up the left side and using the left hand experienced the same result as the right. I dont know if that little DOVO strop was the problem or the angle I was using on my face with the razor. I am glad I am to stubborn to quit, but I have to say I dont think I would have lasted another 30 days. I am glad I persisted because I didnt want to have spent the 900 plus on razors from ebay in vain. So to all newbies like me stick with it and watch the videos in the wiki.

Wow! Way to hang in there. Nothing like buying a bunch of razors to firm up one's commitment to this straight razor thing.

I am going on my 3rd shave...yea im a newb but self teaching myslf to use SE/DE razors has taught me to take everything slow n steady and with certainty!...I nicked myself a few times and I also nicked under my nose..guess im not too great @ getting the hairs there yet..

Keep at it and be patient when you think you're gonna go outta control..take a deep breath..I am still dealing with a less shaky hand my past 2 shaves and I know its hard but it shows you perseverance...hope this helps!

That's never a good idea when you're new to something. That $900 may be better spent when you have more experience.

Glad you've had a breakthrough. That is indeed some stubborn perseverance if it was anything like as bad as it sounded!

Well lets see I got 4 various wade and butchers alas not a meatchopper yet, I bought the NOS dubl duck still in the wrapper, and two bokers, and a genco from here which I really like, plus all the other ones I have pictures of in my profile. Plus i bought a 5000, 8000, and 1200 grit hones. Now all I need to do is figure out which razors I would like restored and which just sharpened.

That's some haul! How was that DD inside the wrapper? Not a bad price, I thought.
