All I can say is Holy Crap!

On the wounds, on the sticking with it and especially on the$900.

I started with your same setup. I have added a couple other razors but a year in am still using that strop. I have oiled it, sanded it, soaped it, rubbed it, and all that and it is just not feeling effective. We are buying a house and once we get settled I am gonna go ahead and upgrade the strop and paste the old one.

That AOS razor has the hardest steel known to man I think. In my opinion after using others it was not a very good beginner razor. It took me almost a year to get it wicked sharp due to some uneven grinding but it is there and I did it myself so I am satisfied.

I've had my fair share of nicks but man fileting my nose may have been the end of me.

Yes I know the feeling about the AOS razor I am not sure if I like it or not. I didnt find this website till a week or so after that purchase. My totals now is even higher as I won this 120569569717. I have been wanting a big wade and butcher and now have one. Ha I just realized my total doesnt include the strop from SRD or the Genco Razor from the classfieds here at SRP.

It's highly unlikely to be shave ready. It probably won't need much work, but you never know, particularly as you've bought it blind.

I have my fingers crossed for you. Cell rot isn't a pretty sight!

I advise you don't buy one or two dream blades right now, or you'll take all the fun out of it!

PS, I do like the hollow W&B's. Nice choice. I have a 9/8 here waiting to be Max'ed.

Based on other old factory edges I've used it probably would be fine with just stropping. Try it and if you feel it needs honing I'll be happy to do it so that I can try one more edge from the factory.

I have experienced nicks cuts pain at every stroke, the worst day was when doing the patch under my nose and nicked myself and then jumped slicing through half of my nostril, blood was everwhere. I had been using an AOS razor and a little 2 in DOVO strop. Well the DOVO razor I ordered came in as did the 3in Premium III Buffalo strop from SRD. I stropped the razor preped my face as normal and today the planets must have been aligned and the Angels singing praise to the Lord, because today I experienced shaving Nirvana it was pure heaven no pulling, nicks or gushing blood. The razor glided across my face so smothly I was amazed. I did half my face and neck then got bold and got out my first razor the AOS stropped it with that huge strop and lathered up the left side and using the left hand experienced the same result as the right. I dont know if that little DOVO strop was the problem or the angle I was using on my face with the razor. I am glad I am to stubborn to quit, but I have to say I dont think I would have lasted another 30 days. I am glad I persisted because I didnt want to have spent the 900 plus on razors from ebay in vain. So to all newbies like me stick with it and watch the videos in the wiki.
    been there, it takes time

    Wink Quitting...not an option

Quitting is NOT an option here ...it does (as you have already experienced) eventually click...and once it does, Taadddaaaa. Nirvana...now, you can never go back...you will want to reproduce and surpass this "great" shave you already achieved...that's the standard you'll be judging your shaves with from now on.

have fun and glad you stuck with it...$900 is well spent

    Robert
