The brush is great. I would opt for a strop with webbing, as you can always replace individual parts, and you will need the webbing. You won't need the drip stand, and I would get an alum block instead of the styptic pencil.

As for the razor, feel free to come to the chat.

I agree with Robin's advice--except for the omission of the acrylic drip stand. They are not expensive and will help you maintain that top-notch Thater brush you intend to make part of your shaving kit.

BTW...If you intend to get that used razor you are eyeing in the SRP Classsifieds, you better jump on it. Those razors usually get snatched up fairly quickly

    Just my 2 cents.

The Classifieds can be a good source for quality stuff. I have seen a number of razors recently that did not look like really good buys. I would recommend making sure that the seller is an active member with a good track record of honing razors, or offers to have the razor professionally honed before shipment if he says it's "shave ready".

+1 on the 3" strop advice. It will make learning proper stropping technique somewhat easier.

The styptic pencil is the most important item on your list.

No offence to you ziggy, I just want to make something clear to the newbie

As a joke, I totally agree

As a fact, not much so. At most, stypic is "nice to have" since it is so cheap and useful. But cold and pressure work well too. Alum has similar properties too, but is less aggressive
